How to make dandelion tea?

Dandelion is a family of flowering weedy plants that grow in many parts of the world which is commonly used as a herb for many diseases, they are also known as Taraxacum spp (Taraxacum officinale is the most common). Other names are( Blowball, Lion’s Tooth, Priest’s Crown, and Cochet).

It has been used in treating many diseases such as cancer, acne, liver disease, digestive disorder, and swelling of the tonsils, might also help in heart failure, blood sugar control, reducing cholesterol, and loss of appetite, but no scientific evidence for these uses. It’s used in the shape of soup, coffee, tea, or chewing it directly. The dosage depends on the patient age, health and other conditions or diseases that he might be infected with or medicines he takes. But to benefit the most of this plant you should make sure that it has been planted in a safe non-polluted environment with no use of pesticides.

In this article we are going to know how to make tea out of Dandelion whether it was from its roots, flowers, or leaves. Keep in mind that tea is a decoction or infusion (water based) not tincture (alcohol based).

  • From the roots:

Break its root in a pan (1 ounce dry roots or two ounces wet roots) with half a liter of water. You need to simmer the root in the pan with the water for about 15 minutes allow the decoction to settle and then strain it into your cup.

  • From leaves:

Or you can make this tea by infusion by simply putting half ounce of dried leaves or one ounces of fresh leaves in a glass jar pour boiled water in it, then close it for a hole night, you may use from 3 to 4 cups per day.

  • From flowers:

Wash it well then but it in boiled water for 15-20 minutes.

Dandelion is a very useful herb but since there are no enough proved scientific researches of this fact, it’s better to discuss it’s use with your doctor if you are suspected to have any kind of allergies or some blood disorders or kidney failure or if you were pregnant.

It also decrease the effectiveness of antibiotics if it has been taken with it.
